I was born in South Africa 1954, both my parents were actively involved in art and encouraged me to draw from the time I first picked up a pencil. I wanted to be a musician but when I met some of the founding members of the Oshogbo School of Art, Nigeria in 1971 I decided to be an Artist. I worked with Ade' Odus Fabumni from 1975 - 1983, the name Ankobra was our signature during this time, the name Kofi was given to me when I first went to Primary School in Ghana, and is the Akan name for males born on a Friday. Both Ade' and myself continued to sign our work Ankobra after our collaboration ended as I was among the illegal aliens expelled from Nigeria in 1983, we always hoped we would work together again but this was not to be, unfortunately Ade' passed away in 1987. I have worked in various different techniques, most of my earliest work was Pen and Ink drawing , Batik and Wool Painting. Later I learned Colour Etching/ Aquatint and taught myself Oil Painting by looking at Old Masters Paintings and reading any information about their techniques and materials. As I was part of the Psychedelic Era, my way of life has been influenced by the unwritten philosophy surrounding this line of thinking, hopefully for a peaceful world without greed and oppression, a world rid of those destroying the earth, working in harmony with Nature rather than against it, as is now normal and ruthlessly pursued in the name of Progress.
